SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HAPPY PEOPLE

"Rejoice in the Lord, always....and again I say rejoice"
~Philippians 4:4

It's important to surround yourself with happy, joyful people.
Today we started filling out papers for a possible new location for therapy
for our son with OCD.
It was 21 pages long!
I was overwhelmed just thinking about the marathon of questions.

So...it must be time for a five minute break.
This one is a bit longer, but well worth it.
The title of this very creative slant on happy people is entitled 'Merci'.
YOU MUST WATCH this once a week for the next month.
Doctor's orders...just joking.

And here's your flower for this week:
It's a white plumaria or Frangipani and it smells delicious.
From my garden to you for doing a great job
caring for your loved one with OCD.

TO SLEEP, PERCHANCE TO DREAM

....to sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub.
~Hamlet, 1602
Do you get enough sleep?
Right now we are living the sleep deprived life to help our son with his medications.
Due to his late shiftwork, one of has to get up at midnight to make certain that he has taken his meds.
By the time all is said and done, it is usually 1 am before we get back to sleep.
...and it's every night...

I feel tired just thinking about it.
But sacrifice is part of the game and caregivers
give away their lives
each and every
day.
So you deserve a break!
Here's a great musical skit with a sleep deprived musician dreaming up
a very funny alternative to
the boring music he's been given.
from the Piano Guys, here's
I love these little breaks, don't you?

And here's your flower for a job well done this week.
It's called Angelonia and it's from my garden.

See you next time and hang in there.
Things will get better.

THE DOMINO EFFECT

This week life became overwhelming because our loved one with OCD skipped his medicine.

That meant:
he didn't go to sleep, which meant
he couldn't think straight the next day, which meant
he went the opposite direction on the freeway, which meant
he ran out of gasoline in outer Mongolia, which meant
I had to get in the car and find him, which meant
he was 4 hours late for his job.

Sound familiar?
It's hard to love your child when the domino effect means that the parent has to drive an extra two hours on the freeway
after working all day long!

But here's a Bible verse to help:

Love suffers long and is kind...
Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.
I Corinthians 13:4

Here's a positive domino effect by Cold Play.
In this very innovative video, one thing leads to another to the surprise of all the puppet show viewers.

And here's your flower for today:
The blue flowers are called Plumbago and they are from my garden.

Hang in there! You can make it.

WHEN LIFE GETS OVERWHELMING

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

This week we have felt overwhelmed.
It's easy to feel this way when so many things are coming at you at the same time. This week our loved one had a very difficult day.
He skipped his medicine
so his OCD stuck him with an issue
 about his shoelaces.
He didn't go to work because he was running late.
We are now considering  hospitalization
to help him with his medication.
As a caregiver the whole psychiatric hospital scenario is indeed overwhelming.
So for now let's put that one on the shelf and enjoy a different type
 of overwhelming scenario.

Here's a clip from "I Love Lucy" that's easy to identify with.
That's it for this week. Hang in there!

And your flower for this week:
Black foot daisies from my garden.

GIVING THANKS

"Giving thanks always for all things unto God."   Ephesians 5:20

Can you give thanks for your situation? Probably the thought has never entered your mind. How can a soldier fighting in the trenches give thanks for the war?
Someday the war will be over. Someday we'll find answers to all the nagging questions.
I'm thankful you are willing to take a break as a caregiver! You did a good job today. And if you weren't perfect at it, cheer up and enjoy this break anyway.

Today's flower just for you. It's from my garden.
It's called Coreopsis 'Route 66'.
Hope you like it.

And now for your 'movie'. This is a little video I found out about from one of my students.
It's a bunch of guys playing the piano, but in a very creative way.
The lesson: if the regular way of doing things doesn't work with your loved one, innovate!
Enjoy the video and I'll see you here next week.
Remember, you did a good job this week so enjoy your break.
