GETTING PAST OCD & FAMILY SECRETS

First read this quote:
"I was about 12 or 13 when I developed my eating disorder, and at that time nobody in the public eye talked about their body issues," said Lovato, who has sought treatment in the past for substance abuse, bulimia and bipolar disorder. "I feel that if someone had admitted they had a problem, then I wouldn't have gone down that route myself."
"That's my goal in talking about my problems: I want to be the person for other girls that I needed to admire when I was looking for help and strength," Lovato added, "and it's OK to love your body the way it is, and it's OK to reach out for help if you have drug and alcohol problems, or if you're self-harming or being bullied."

When I started this online journal, I had to decide if our son's OCD, autism, caffeine & sugar addictions and social phobias would stay a family secret....or
be out there for the public to see.
The choice became much easier when I started searching on Google for
other families dealing with these multiple issues.
There wasn't a lot out there to read.
Since that time, I've found celebrities that have faced addictions that could easily ruin their careers and stay hidden from public view. Others have decided to help others with the same struggles.....like Demi Lovato.
And I've decided to do the same.

A VACATION FROM OCD

Can a person take a vacation from OCD?
or from any mental disorder for that matter.

You take your thoughts with you no matter where you go.
And some daydream to get away.
But OCD is different.
Constantly, the unwanted thoughts invade.
They follow you like a pack of dogs after its prey.
So how do I teach my son to blow the whistle
and call the dogs off?
That's what we are learning.
****
Today's 5 minute break is from a delightful Danish group
called Alphabeat.
The song 'Love Sea'.
Such fun!!!!
I love them.
All for now,

OCD: YOUR STORY, MY STORY

What's your story?
Who wants to listen?
How can the bad stuff be any good?
How can our son's OCD problems
be of any help to someone else?
***
I've now read four autobiographies about people who have
had severe OCD along with two OCD autobiographical blogs.
All have a common thread.
The way out is not to turn inward
but outward.
To find a purpose;
To find a way to help others.
What will that be for our son?

The Story from the movie 'The Lucky One'

YOU LOST YOUR KEYS; I LOST MY MIND...

...just kidding.
But think about it,
OCD sufferers are constantly battling their own mind.
Sometimes winning.
Sometimes losing...the control of their minds
and their thoughts.
Tonight our son has a head cold
and it is NOT helping his OCD.
I just ran out the door to get him some chicken soup.
That should help, right?

Today's break is FUNNY and LIGHTHEARTED
the perfect medicine for stress.
Thanks for stopping by!

THE BOOK OF LOVE

" Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
 Love never ends...
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood.
So faith, hope, love abide, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.
I Corinthians 13: 7,8, and  12,13

I often wonder what is left after all is said and done. It won't be my anger
It won't be my grief
It won't be my sadness
and it won't be my disbelief.

It will be love.

Enjoy today's five minute break brought to you by 2 Cellos and Zucchero.

And today's flower just for you.
It's catmint and it's from my garden.
You deserve it for all your hard work.
Thanks for stopping by today.

PARENTS NEED SOOTHING WORDS

Today's five minute break is about Soothing Words...

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
(NIV Bible)

Soothing words are always welcome to those who are trying to comfort children
with mental or physical struggles.
But who will comfort you?
Here's a five minute break
that will soothe you
and help...if only for a minute.
Enjoy the Two Cellos as they play
a perfect rendition of
Fields of Gold.

And here's today's flowers for you for
a job well done.
They are verbenas and they are from my garden.
Hang in there.

RESTING FROM THE BATTLE

... "and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith"...
~Hebrews 12:1-2

When a caregiver gets a break from the battle of keeping a loved one functioning, it may not seem like a break to others.
I was asked what I was doing over Spring Break this year.
The answer surprised them....I was going to sit in a chair.

No fancy vacation.
No cruise ships.
Just sit.

No TV.
No Facebook.
Just sit.

Maybe that's why your here right now. Just to sit!

Yea! :0) Relax and enjoy!
Your break this time is...
a romantic boat tour of the Chicago skyline
at night.
You worked hard, so enjoy this little moment of rest.
The music is wonderful
and the trip divine.

And let's no forget your flower!
This is a Passion Flower just beginning to open.
It's not from my garden, but from another garden here in Houston.

Have a Super Day!
Thanks for stopping by.

YOUR CHILD'S FRIENDS ARE LIKE GOLD

"Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth."
~Matthew 5:5

As a caregiver, you are the leader.
As a caregiver, you are the advocate.
No matter how odd the looks in public or the silent ridicule of strangers...you know better.
You know the spirit inside the person suffering.
And you have the faith that things are not what they seem.
It is nice to know that others appreciate your love for those who are misunderstood by
our society.
******
Are you ready for a break?
This is a great one. You will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this break.
I'll not spoil it for you.
I have watched this one over and over.
It is filled with hope.
And redemption.
Hurray for friends that stick close to your side.
And here's your flower. Actually it's a whole bouquet from my garden.
Job well done this week.
You deserve a bouquet.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HAPPY PEOPLE

"Rejoice in the Lord, always....and again I say rejoice"
~Philippians 4:4

It's important to surround yourself with happy, joyful people.
Today we started filling out papers for a possible new location for therapy
for our son with OCD.
It was 21 pages long!
I was overwhelmed just thinking about the marathon of questions.

So...it must be time for a five minute break.
This one is a bit longer, but well worth it.
The title of this very creative slant on happy people is entitled 'Merci'.
YOU MUST WATCH this once a week for the next month.
Doctor's orders...just joking.

And here's your flower for this week:
It's a white plumaria or Frangipani and it smells delicious.
From my garden to you for doing a great job
caring for your loved one with OCD.

TO SLEEP, PERCHANCE TO DREAM

....to sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub.
~Hamlet, 1602
Do you get enough sleep?
Right now we are living the sleep deprived life to help our son with his medications.
Due to his late shiftwork, one of has to get up at midnight to make certain that he has taken his meds.
By the time all is said and done, it is usually 1 am before we get back to sleep.
...and it's every night...

I feel tired just thinking about it.
But sacrifice is part of the game and caregivers
give away their lives
each and every
day.
So you deserve a break!
Here's a great musical skit with a sleep deprived musician dreaming up
a very funny alternative to
the boring music he's been given.
from the Piano Guys, here's
I love these little breaks, don't you?

And here's your flower for a job well done this week.
It's called Angelonia and it's from my garden.

See you next time and hang in there.
Things will get better.
